On the card Ms. Chen wrote some Chinese words which mean in English, “As the New Year begins, let us also start anew.”  We stick a NT dollar on the card because the dollar and the year are homonyms in Chinese.  Ms. Ko also wrote some Chinese words on the back of the card.

9.    A “Thanking-Basket” for the bride…Gabrielle (Mrs. Tina’s Daughter):

In Taiwan the bride must take the dowry to the family of her husband.  The “Thanking-Basket” is one of the dowries.  On this “Thanking-Basket” there are some Chinese words which mean “A heaven-made match” and “wedding” in English.  Ms. Ko bought it and she would like to send it to Gabrielle.  We hope Gabrielle will get a happy and

successful marriage!

10.             Two desk calendars:

In the left one, there is an introduction of wedding custom in Taiwan.  (The way we obtained it is very interesting.) The professor, Grcyjc Chen owned this calendar.  She introduced it to us.  At that time, we didn’t know what gifts we could send to you.  One day, we discussed about the gifts in NCCU (National Chung Cheng University, this is where Grcyjc Chen teaches).  And then, Grcyjc Chen appeared!  We requested Professor Chen to give this calendar to us because we know that Gabrielle is going to get married.  You could know some different customs in Taiwan from it.  Maybe it could help you when you teach the wedding customs.  So, the process is so interesting and coincidental.

Besides, the right one is about poems of the Sung Dynasty of China.  We found some translation, but we are sorry that we only found a few.

We also send the left one to Mr. Price (Smile!)

11.             Worksheets of the Chinese words:

The worksheets are drawn and created by our students.  Students show and introduce these words in our Chinese class.  We want to send them to you and Jessica.  We hope these Chinese words would help you and Jessica. (Maybe Jessica’s parents could teach Jessica some Chinese words with these interesting worksheets.)

12.  Two video compact discs of Mr. Birdd’s report of Action Research on 2002.07.26

Sincerely Yours,

Mr. Shiu, Mr. Huang, Ms. Wu, Ms. Chen and Ms. Ko
